TVP - Textured Vegetable Protein

Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) is a meat replacer or meat extender. It is a meat substitute made from soy flour that is high in fiber and protein. It is available in many flavors and sizes - giving you many options for use. TVP absorbs spices and flavorings so it works well in vegetarian soups, chili, casseroles, and so much more!

Textured Vegetable Protein is a dehydrated product. If you are using this as a partial or complete meat substitute, rehydrate it in order to keep the same consistency as the meat you are substituting. Like the other products, it is very easy to rehydrate, and once the TVP is rehydrated, you can cook your favorite meals. You also have to option to put the product on top of salads, soups, or pizza without needing to rehydrate them. It is low cost, but high in nutrients - which is what we like about it!

We have about 8 different Textured Vegetable Protein options to choose from as well as several mix options. Here is a list of all TVP products:

Along with that list we also offer Variety Sample Packs for TVP!

General Cooking/Preparations:

If you are looking to keep it in meat form to be used in tacos, pastas, or casseroles, you certainly can rehydrate the TVP and it's very fast a easy! Just follow these simple steps:

Consider the TVP products to be on a 1:1 ratio (one part product = one part water). Again this can vary, based on personal preference.

  1. Measure 1-2 cups TVP
  2. Measure 1-2 cups water and place in a tea pot or other pot and begin heating on high.
  3. When steam is coming off water it is warm enough to combine with the TVP product (water does not have to be boiling). Begin slowly pouring the hot water over the TVP while stirring constantly. Continue stirring constantly over medium heat until all visible water disappears.
  4. Remove TVP to safe bowl and continue to prepare meal just as you normally would.

Once you have found a product:water ratio that works best for you or a recipe you really enjoy, feel free to share it with us on our blog or facebook page!
